The Nuova Simonelli MCF espresso grinder is truly a diamond in the rough. The MCF has all of the features of a cafe style commercial espresso burr grinder, but it is conveniently sized for both home and small cafe use. The Nuova Simonelli MCF is a doser grinder that grinds into a bin complete with a dosing lever at the bottom. Each pull on the lever dispenses enough ground coffee for one shot of espresso. The motor on the MCF, while powerful, is quieter than most models, so it won't jolt your family out of bed in the morning. For those of you looking to find the ultimate grind setting for your espresso, you're in for a treat. The stepless grind adjustment on the MCF means that each turn of the dial changes your grind setting by just a tiny fraction to give you the key building block for the "God Shot" of espresso. The Nuova Simonelli MCF is encased inside a powder-coated steel body that is easy to clean with a luster that will last for years.
Semi-Commercial Espresso Grinder With Doser
Nuova Simonelli built the MCF grinder to be powerful enough for a coffee shop, yet small enough for a home or office. The MCF is a doser grinder, which means that the coffee grounds flow directly into a dispensing bin on the front of the unit. This convenient attachment allows you to grind espresso for more than just one or two shots. Simply grind the desired amount of espresso powder (about 7 to 8 seconds per shot) into the container and then pull on the lever to dispense perfectly portioned "doses" of grounds directly into your portafilter. Each pull on the lever represents approximately one shot's worth of espresso. The portafilter rest beneath the doser is height-adjustable to accommodate any variety of portafilters. The MCF does not force you to fill the entire container; you must manually stop the grinding process and can do so at any time.
Stepless Grind Adjustment
Espresso connoisseurs know that their high-end espresso machine is useless without properly ground espresso beans. The Nuova Simonelli MCF will deliver precision-ground espresso powder that will satisfy even the most demanding barista. It does this with not only quality grinding burrs and motor, but also with its step-less grind settings. Most grinders force you to change the grind setting one click at a time. While the difference in fineness is small, there is still a gap which your perfect shot of espresso could reside. With step-less (or micro-metric) adjustment, there are no leaps from setting to setting. Simply turn the micro-metric adjustment knob, and your Nuova MCF will change the grind setting very slowly and in tiny increments. For this reason, the Nuova Simonelli is best used as strictly an espresso grinder, although it can grind from Turkish to French Press.
Commercial Grade Steel Grinding Burrs
Nuova Simonelli knows that espresso machines are finicky when it comes to not only the fineness of the grind, but also the consistency. To tackle these demands, the MCF employs 48 mm hardened steel grinding burrs. Theses burrs are sharp and durable and can withstand heavy use. The engineers at Nuova Simonelli balance and calibrate the burr plates with incredible precision. The top burr is mounted to the metal cover plate at the top of the grinder. The bottom burr is directly fixed to the motor drive shaft and is adjusted with the step-less knob at the top left of the unit.
Heavy-Duty Construction
The body of the Nuova Simonelli MCF grinder is a solid piece of cast metal that has been treated to resist corrosion. The metal is then power-coated and baked to give the MCF a beautiful, glossy black finish. Beneath the durable, and heavy, metal exterior lies the heart of the beast: a 150 Watt direct drive motor. It spins at about 1400 RPM to deliver about 1 gram per second of perfect espresso powder. The bean hopper on top is easily lifted off even with coffee beans still inside. It has a sliding guard on the bottom to prevent the beans from falling out. Even though the hopper will hold a full pound of beans, it remains compact to keep the overall height of the Nuova Simonelli MCF under 12 and a half inches.
